WATER FROM THE ROCK |
Do you know that everything you will ever need is inside you right now? You don’t believe me? Well, let’s examine the Word of God and see what He has to say. Eph 1: 3 is a very popular scripture (at least, I think so) “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ” therefore these blessings are in Christ. And where is Christ located, if I may ask? The answer is supplied in Col 1: 27 “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” so Christ is located in us. Understanding that all physical blessings are derived from spiritual blessings we can safely say that because Christ is in us, we have in us (since Christ is in us) everything that we will ever need be it spiritual, physical, financial, health etc. Remember the bible tells us in Rom 8: 32 “if God did not spare His Son but gave Him to us how shall He not with Him freely give us all things” in other words Christ is a whole package containing all things. Praise the Lord forevermore. We need to know these things and rejoice in them. Hallelujah. The truth is all things originate from the spirit realm. Behind every physical blessing is a spiritual reality and the summary of all reality is Christ the Truth. My desire is that this Truth will be established in the hearts of believers. It will solve virtually all problems that believers face be it spiritual or otherwise. Whatever weakness you notice in your life, the counter measure is Christ in you. Remember 2 Cor 12: 9. You are a walking, talking storehouse of blessings and you don’t even know it! The problem is ‘thou knowest not’. May the Lord open your eyes to see, in Jesus Christ Name, Amen.
While it is good to know the abundant treasure within us we need to know how to benefit from it. That is the focus of our discussion. The bible tells us that the Rock that followed the Israelites is Christ Himself (1 Cor 10: 4). This Rock on two occasions supplied water for the Israelites to quench their thirst. Understanding the lesson in these two incidents will help us know how to receive ‘water’ to quench our ‘thirst’ from the Rock.
The first incident is recorded in Ex 17: 1-6. In order to supply the peoples’ need, the Rock had to be struck. What does this represent? It shows that in order for God to meet the need of man Jesus Christ had to be struck, i.e., crucified on the Cross. Man was in need, he had a spiritual thirst and the only way to meet that need was to offer Christ. This Sacrifice of Christ covers every need that man will ever experience. So when we approach God initially for our needs, He shows us Christ crucified and risen for our sakes.
The second incident and the most crucial for us after the initial salvation experience is recorded in Num 20: 2-12. In this case the instruction was “speak to the Rock and it will yield water”. Now, what exactly was Moses to say to the Rock? Was it “Rock produce water in the name of Jehovah” or “release water now” or again “I command water to come out of you Rock”? We may not know for sure but God had said speak to the Rock. Rather than obey God, Moses had instead struck the Rock twice. God was so angry that Moses was banned from entering the Promised Land. Why was this incident so important to God? Perhaps, because God was teaching a shadow lesson which would be missed had He treated Moses’ action with levity. You see, Grace is released or accessed by Faith and Faith is essentially a vocal transaction; a matter of what you say. So after the initial salvation experience, consequent needs that arise are not met by crucifying Christ all over again but by speaking to the Rock, which is in you. Remember Rom 10: 8 that tells us that confession is made unto salvation. To experience that need being met is now a matter of speaking to the Rock, by speaking the Word of Faith. Grace is abundantly available; it only requires Faith, which comes by speaking the Word. God gave Moses the Word to speak but Moses did otherwise which made God very angry. If we will speak the Word God gives us to speak the streams of Grace will continually flow out of our lives into our lives. If we understand this principle then when a need arises all we need to do is speak to the Rock, Christ who is within us, even right now. Remember the bible also says, “out of our bellies will flow rivers of living water”. These rivers flow out of the Rock in our bellies through our mouths into our lives to meet whatever need led us to the Rock in the first place. And remember, the Rock of supply is within you. You are richer than you know, a moving, walking, talking storehouse.
